Compares well with qiagen RNAeasy kit (and less expensive)

The qiagen RNAeasy kit and the GeneBio easy pure kit were tested with equivalennt samples of tick homogenate and RNA was extracted, and the results quatified by nanodrop.
The two kits performed more or less equivalently, although the gene bio kit gave a greater yield and in a smaller volume which was useful. Both kits had genomic DNA contamination after the on-column DNAse treatment so needed post-extraction DNAse treatment. The ease of the kit is similar and the Gene Bio kit is about 1/3 of the price, with the current exchange rate - if the exchange were on par with the Canadian dollar, the Gene Bio kit would be roughly half the price. We're going with this kit now!
