Background:Accessory subunit of neuronal kainate-sensitive glutamate receptors, GRIK2 and GRIK3. Modulates the agonist sensitivity of kainate receptors. Slows the decay of kainate receptor-mediated excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs), thus directly influencing synaptic transmission.
