Background:Nuclear hormone receptor. Binds estrogens with an affinity similar to that of ESR1/ER-alpha, and activates expression of reporter genes containing estrogen response elements (ERE) in an estrogen-dependent manner. Lacks ligand binding affinity and suppresses ESR1/ER-alpha and ESR2 isoform 1/ER-beta1 mediated transcriptional activation and may act as a dominant negative regulator of estrogen action. Unable to bind DNA and activate transcription due to the truncation of the DNA binding domain. Unable to bind DNA and activate transcription due to the truncation of the DNA binding domain.
