Background:Human CCL8, also known as monocyte chemotactic protein 2 (MCP-2), is belonging to the CC chemokine family. It is encoded by the gene CCL8. MCP-2 has two homogeneous MCP-1 (CCL2) and MCP-3 (CCL7). These three MCPs were found by IL-1-beta triggered human MG-63 osteosarcoma cells. CCL8 shares 62 % amino acid sequence identity with MCP-1, and shares 58 % amino acid sequence identity with MCP-2. CCL8 has chemotactic function for monocytes, eosinophils and neutrophils. In addition, it can also chemoattract activated NK cells.
