Mutations in CA8 are associated with cerebellar ataxia, mental retardation, and dysequilibrium syndrome 3 (CMARQ3). Polymorphisms in CA8 are associated with osteoporosis, and overexpression of CA8 in osteosarcoma cells suggests an oncogenic role.
