It was concluded that downregulation of hepatic Hemojuvelin during inflammation may induce a temporary elimination of iron sensing. Hemojuvelin is a coreceptor for bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), and inhibition of endogenous BMP signaling reduces hepcidin expression and increases serum iron in mice.
