Its molecular target is unknown, but it may antagonize the action of proteases that impair the action of insulin. Rat Serpin A12 is 411 amino acids (aa) in length. It contains a 20 aa signal sequence and a 391 aa mature region. A potential “active” inhibitor site lies between Gly364 and Pro389.
